Tenar sells casual shoes in leather, suede, nubuck and cotton canvas, and the products used to look after them. Forty-two items, six lines, one currency, bought outright. That is the whole business.

The idea, which is small and specific.
We did not set out to make a better shoe than everybody else. We set out to sell one differently.
Every shoe sold in the European Union carries a small woven label declaring what three of its parts are made of. It is on the tongue. Almost nobody reads it, and almost every store treats it as a compliance chore, satisfied with one line at the bottom of a specification tab.
It is also the most useful thing printed on a shoe. What a pair is made of decides how it behaves in rain, how warm it is in August, how it ages, how you clean it, and which marks you will never get out. So we made it the filter, put it on every product card, and photographed the real one on every product page.

How the shoes are built.
Two constructions, both bonded. Neither can be re-soled, and we say so on every product page rather than letting you find out at a cobbler.
Cupsole
The upper drops into a moulded rubber cup and is cemented in place. More structure underfoot, more weight, and it holds its shape through wet weather better.
Vulcanised
Rubber cured onto the upper under heat, with a foxing tape band around the join. Thinner and softer, and it folds with your foot from the first day.

What we deliberately do not claim.
A shoe shop can say almost anything about a shoe. Most of what gets said is unverifiable, and some of it is regulated. Here is where our line is.
Not sports equipment
Two models have a retro running or tennis outline. That is a shape borrowed from an era, not a performance product. There is no plate, no foam system and no return mechanism, and nothing on this site claims a benefit to your speed, your energy or your sporting output.
Not protective equipment
These are casual shoes and they carry no protective certification of any kind: no reinforced toe, no certified traction rating, no electrostatic rating. If your workplace requires certified protective footwear, this is not it.
Not a medical product
The replacement insoles are consumables that replace a worn insock. They do not alter posture or the way you walk, and nothing we sell is offered on a medical or therapeutic basis.
No environmental claims
We make no environmental claim about these products at all — not about the materials, not about production, not about packaging. Claims of that kind carry evidential requirements we cannot currently meet, and making them without the evidence is just advertising.
No origin claim we cannot support
The country of manufacture is printed on the box and on the sewn-in label of each pair. We do not imply a country of origin in our marketing, and you will not find a national flag used decoratively anywhere on this site.
Nothing about staying white
All 18 light-coloured pairs carry three statements — yellowing, creasing, cleaning limits — above the price, before you buy. Nothing here is offered as proof against stains, dirt or water, and nothing here cleans itself.

Who operates this store.
Tenar is the trading name of AL TEI FABRICA CALCADO LDA, a company registered in Portugal with its office in Macieira da Lixa, Felgueiras, in the Porto district. That is the name on your invoice and the name that appears on your bank statement.
Tenar is a new label built for this catalogue. It does not carry over the models, patterns, imagery or customer relationships of any other business, and nothing here is presented as a continuation of one.
